🚀 Getting Started

FreezerTrack helps you manage everything in your freezer — track what you have, when it expires, and what you need to buy. It syncs across devices and supports multiple households.

First-time setup

Create an account or sign in with Google or Facebook.
Go to ⚙️ Settings → Freezer Locations and add at least one freezer and shelf.
Go to 🧊 Items and tap + Add Item to start tracking.

💡 Install as a home screen app for the best experience. In Safari, tap the Share button and choose "Add to Home Screen."

🧊 Items Tab

The main view of everything currently in your freezer(s).

Adding an item

Tap + Add Item and fill in the form:

💡 The Freezer and Shelf fields remember your last selection — great when adding multiple items to the same location in a row.

Item status colors

Red badge + red left border — item has expired or expires today
Orange badge — expiring within your reminder window
Green badge — use-by date is comfortably in the future
No badge — no use-by date set

Expanding an item

Tap anywhere on an item card to expand or collapse its details. You can also tap the ▾ / ▴ arrow on the right side of the card.

Swipe gestures

Swipe left — reveals a red Delete button to permanently remove the item. The deletion is recorded in the Activity Log.
Swipe right — pins the item to the top of the list. Pinned items stay at the top regardless of your current filter or sort setting. Swipe right again to unpin.

Pinned items

Pinned items always appear at the top of the list. You can pin as many items as you like. To reorder pinned items, press and hold the ≡ drag handle on a pinned card, then drag it to the desired position.

Summary tiles

The Expiring and Expired count tiles near the top of the Items tab are tappable — tap either one to jump directly to the Expiring tab.

Actions on an item

Edit — modify any field
Used — mark as consumed; optionally adds it to your Shopping List
Delete — permanently remove the item

Search & Sort

Use the search bar at the top to filter items by name. Use the sort dropdown to order by name, date added, use-by date, or expiry status.

📦 Freezers Tab

Browse your inventory organized by freezer and shelf instead of a flat list.

Tap a freezer to expand or collapse its shelves.
Each shelf shows its items with the same color-coded expiry badges.
Use this view to quickly see what's in a specific physical location.

💡 Add and manage freezers and shelves under ⚙️ Settings → Freezer Locations.

⏰ Expiring Tab

A focused view of items that need your attention soon — sorted by urgency.

Expired — past their use-by date
Expiring soon — within your reminder window
Upcoming — expiring within 30 days

Items without a use-by date don't appear here. Set use-by dates when adding items to get the most out of this tab.

📋 USDA Guide Tab

A built-in reference of USDA-recommended maximum freezer storage times for common food categories.

Browse by category (Meat, Poultry, Seafood, etc.)
Use the search bar to find a specific food item quickly
Times shown are for best quality — food kept longer may still be safe but quality degrades

💡 Use this as a guide when setting Use-By dates on new items.

🛒 Shopping List Tab

A household shopping list that integrates with your freezer inventory.

Adding items

When you mark a freezer item as Used, you'll be prompted to add it to the shopping list automatically.
Tap + Add to List to add items manually with a name and quantity.
Adding a duplicate item name increases its quantity instead of creating a duplicate row.

Managing the list

Tap an item to check it off as purchased.
Tap Clear Checked to remove all completed items.
The tab badge shows the number of unchecked items.

💡 The shopping list is per-household, so each household has its own separate list.

⚙️ Settings Tab

Appearance

Choose between Light, Dark, or System (follows your device's dark mode setting).

Notifications

Enable push notifications to receive alerts when items are about to expire. Requires HTTPS and browser permission.

Export

Download your full inventory as a CSV file for use in spreadsheet apps.

Integrations

Connect your shopping list to external apps using a webhook URL. Every time an item is added to your shopping list — whether automatically when marking an item Used or added manually — FreezerTrack sends a POST request to your configured URL.

Webhook URL — paste in any URL that accepts a POST request
Save — stores the URL to your device
Test — fires a test request so you can verify the connection works

Works with IFTTT (connect to Alexa, Google Home, Todoist, Apple Reminders, and 600+ other services), or any custom webhook endpoint. Tap "How to connect Alexa / IFTTT" inside the section for step-by-step setup instructions.

💡 The webhook URL is saved per device, not per household. Each family member sets up their own if desired.

Subscription

FreezerTrack requires a one-time $2.99 purchase to unlock full access. New accounts automatically receive a 14-day free trial — no credit card required.

Trial — full access for 14 days. A countdown banner appears on the Items tab when 5 or fewer days remain.
Buy Now — opens a secure Stripe checkout page to complete the one-time purchase.
Restore Purchase — tap this if you've already paid but your access hasn't updated (e.g., after reinstalling or signing in on a new device).

Your subscription status (Trial, Purchased, Complimentary, Cancelled) is shown in this section. Tap the section to view it.

💡 If you were an early user before the subscription system launched, your account may be set to Complimentary — meaning you have permanent free access.

Households

Manage multiple households (e.g., home and a vacation property). Each household has its own items, freezers, shopping list, and activity log. Tap a household name to rename it.

Freezer Locations

Add, edit, and delete freezers and their shelves. Each freezer belongs to a household. Tap a freezer name to expand it and manage its shelves. Use the edit (✏️) and delete (🗑️) icons to modify them.

⚠️ Deleting a freezer removes all associated shelf data. Items currently assigned to that freezer should be reassigned first.

Activity Log

A history of all add, edit, use, and delete events across your household. Shows who performed each action and when. Tap the header to expand.

Item Stats

A summary of your usage patterns — which items you go through most often, plus total counts of items added, used, and deleted. Based on the last 50 logged actions. Tap the header to expand.

Household Sharing

Invite other users to join your household so they can view and manage the same inventory. Shared members can add, edit, and remove items.

Security

Change your password. You can also enable biometric sign-in (Face ID, Touch ID, or Fingerprint depending on your device) so you don't need to enter your password each time you open the app.

Account

View your signed-in email address and sign out.

Danger Zone

Permanently delete all data for your account. This cannot be undone.

💡 Tips & Tricks

Use the USDA Guide tab to look up recommended storage times before adding items.
Set a Remind Me value of 7–14 days to give yourself time to use items before they expire.
Check the Expiring tab regularly to prioritize what to cook next.
The Shopping List auto-populates when you mark items as Used — let it build your grocery list for you.
Use multiple shelves within a freezer to reflect real-world organization (e.g., Top Shelf, Drawer, Door).
Export your data periodically as a backup.
